(49 Questions to Ask Your Board)
Over the course of the next several months, questions 12 thru 22 will explore the board’s responsibility to provide a strategic voice on behalf of the community it serves. That voice is expressed through vision and values that guide the organization as it seeks to assure the community’s desires for student learning.
Vision is a component of the board’s responsibility to provide guidance about outcomes desired for students well into an extended future. Questions 13-17 will explore the elements of vision that are needed to assure desired student outcomes by exercising the board’s strategic voice.
Values are a form of principled guidance applicable to decision-making across a broad range of situations, the details of which may not be known by the board before-hand, but for which the board is nevertheless responsible. Questions 18-22 will explore the elements of values that offer guidance in deciding on the means by which desired student outcomes are to be achieved.
